Israel-Gaza conflict: Thousands flee homes amid heavy shelling
Israeli forces have shelled the southern Gaza city of Rafah, forcing thousands of people to flee their homes.
The UN has warned that a ground attack on the city could inflict hundreds of thousands of casualties.
The Israeli military said it was targeting Hamas militants in Rafah, but witnesses said that civilian homes had also been hit.
The latest violence comes as a team of Israeli negotiators is expected to travel to Cairo for talks with Egyptian mediators aimed at ending the conflict.
The Gaza-Israel conflict is a localized part of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict beginning in 1948 when 200000 Palestinians fled or were expelled from.
