1,900 Earthquakes in a Single Day
M43 - 190 km SW of Port Alice BC - offshore M39 - 252 km WSW of Tofino BC
On a single day earlier this month, almost 2,000 earthquakes rocked a spot off the coast of Canada. This could be a sign that new oceanic crust is being created.
The earthquakes occurred in two swarms, with the first one happening on March 11th and the second one occurring on March 12th. The largest earthquake in the first swarm was a magnitude 4.3, while the largest earthquake in the second swarm was a magnitude 3.9.
The earthquakes were located about 190 kilometers southwest of Port Alice, British Columbia, and 252 kilometers west-southwest of Tofino, British Columbia.
